Meet the Space Cadets

Mission Control Captain
Meet Captain Petlak , Mission Control
I am so excited to soar to infinity and beyond as we learn new concepts, skills, and strategies this year!  We will be exploring interesting subjects, incorporating the arts into our experiences, and practicing “first class character” throughout our travels.  By the time we reach our final galaxy in June, you will be ready for 4th grade!

Captain's Credentials:  Serving as a pilot for 3rd Graders is an important responsibility that requires extensive training and experience.  I graduated from University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) in 2002.  Following graduation, I taught full-day Kindergarten for two years at Barkstall Elementary School in Champaign.  While teaching there, I was fortunate enough to receive the Golden Apple Award during the 2002-2003 school year.  Next, I taught 1st Grade at Roycemore School in Evanston for one year, and then taught 2nd Grade for three years and 3rd Grade for one year at Prairieview School in Grayslake.  My last year at Prairieview, I had the privilege to loop with my class from 2nd to 3rd grade.  It was amazing!  For two years, I have served as a National Consultant for ETA/Cuisenaire.  This adventure led me on many travels around the country, training teachers, coaching in classrooms, working with students, and creating new hands-on learning products.  Since 2011 I have had the fortune to be a part of the Indian Trail team in NSSD 112.  Being able to teach 2nd grade and loop to 3rd again (as I did at Prairieview) is a rare pleasure.  In 2012 I received the honor of being named a Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction, and I aim to serve your children with the highest educational experience possible.
